Tokyo, May 14 (NQA) – The State of Qatar has officially signed a participation agreement for the International Horticultural Exhibition 2027 in Yokohama, becoming the first country to formalize its involvement with host nation Japan.

The signing ceremony took place in Tokyo, with H.E. Jaber bin Jarallah Al Marri, Ambassador of Qatar to Japan and Commissioner-General of the Qatar Pavilion, representing Qatar. On the Japanese side, the agreement was signed by H.E. Koshikawa Kazuhiko, Commissioner-General of Expo 2027, and Mr. Masato Komura, Secretary-General of the event, which will run from March 19 to September 26, 2027, under the theme “The Future of Happiness.”

Qatar’s participation underscores its commitment to sustainability and international collaboration, reflecting its ongoing efforts to support global initiatives addressing environmental challenges. The agreement also highlights the deepening strategic partnership between Qatar and Japan, particularly in sustainable development and cultural exchange.

During the ceremony, Ambassador Al Marri reaffirmed Qatar’s dedication to working closely with Japan to ensure the success of Expo 2027 and contribute to shaping sustainable solutions for future generations.

Qatar’s engagement in the Yokohama Expo builds on the success of Expo 2023 Doha, the first horticultural exhibition held in the Middle East and North Africa, which welcomed millions of visitors and showcased innovations under the theme “Green Desert, Better Environment.” The event concluded with a ceremonial handover of the Expo banner to Japanese representatives, marking the continuation of international cooperation in horticultural exhibitions.
