Trump Announces Intent to Lift Sanctions on Syria During Riyadh Forum

Riyadh, May 13 (NQA) – U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday his intention to lift sanctions on Syria, stating the move is aimed at “giving them a great opportunity.”
The announcement came during his remarks at the Saudi-U.S. Investment Forum in Riyadh, part of his broader tour of the Gulf region.
President Trump said the decision followed discussions with His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, as well as a phone call from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who also urged the lifting of sanctions. He added that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is scheduled to meet with Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Sheibani in Turkey later this week to advance discussions.
In a related development, a White House official confirmed that President Trump is expected to meet with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa during his visit to Saudi Arabia.
